Rave The Reqviem – Is Apollo Still Alive? CD/vinyl hybrid

For the third and final single to be taken from Swedish industrial metal-step crossover act RAVE THE REQVIEM’s self-titled debut album, DWA has taken full advantage of both the song’s length and the length of the 3 remixes presented alongside it to squeeze both 4 tracks of CD-audio and – on the first 100 copies ONLY – to lathe-cut the title track for vinyl playback.

Yes – you read that correctly. The first 100 copies of the “Is Apollo Still Alive?” CD are in fact “a hybrid CD/vinyl” – a format so rare that it doesn’t even really have a name and is only produced by one company on the planet. In fact, we weren’t even sure whether to give it our standard CD catalogue numbering “DWA” or our usual vinyl standard “DWV” – but “DWA381” won out in the end, given that (a) it IS “a CD” not “vinyl” and (b) only the first 100 units are “vinyl-cut”.

The CD comes with a special plastic adaptor already inserted, in order to facilitate playback on a record deck. The vinyl track is lathe-cut around the outer-most part of the CD, with the regular CD-audio data occupying the remaining space inside, and is presented in full-colour card wallet with mythologically-themed artwork executed like the previous 2 singles and album by DWA’s lead designer Vlad McNeally.

Intended as both a final flourish for the current album and an advertisement for the “Remix The Reqviem” digital album unleashed last month, this is quite literally “an analogue-only release” embracing both CD and vinyl technology to create a truly unique artefact. No digital release will be made. The title track can of course be found digitally on the original album, and the IVARDENSPHERE and W.A.S.T.E. remixes on the “Remix The Reqviem” album. The fourth and final track however is exclusive to this CD release – VPROJEKT “Version 2”, which is a substantially alternate mix to that which can be found on “Remix The Reqviem”…

With the digipak first edition of this incredible Swedish band’s debut album already sold out in little over a year, we are now pleased to present a 2CD re-issue of “Rave The Reqviem” – complete with a 12-track CD2 of remixes (including 9 previously unreleased from GRENDEL, FADERHEAD, W.A.S.T.E., IVARDENSPHERE, NITRO/NOISE, THOMAS NYHOLM, DJ ARTI-FIX, RUINIZER and VPROJEKT – and 3 previously only available digitally), a 12-panel foldout poster-booklet including all lyrics, an outer slipcase, all in a strictly limited edition of 100 units all hand-numbered on the traycard.

And if you missed the digipak version of the first pressing, we are also making available a limited quantity of the 100 remaining CDs in a jewelcase edition. This budget-priced re-issue features the same 12-panel foldout poster-booklet as the 2CD, and includes as bonus tracks remixes from COMBICHRIST, NOISUF-X, ALIEN VAMPIRES and SERAPHIM SYSTEM all exclusive to this pressing!

Mixed and mastered in its brutal entirety by Jan L at his X-Fusion Music Production facility in Germany, “Rave The Reqviem” is a devastating debut of incredibly assured and polished songwriting and production skill – a heady and complex cocktail which the band’s own description “industrial metal with modern electronic styles” hardly does justice to.

Ethereal female soprano vocals courtesy of none other than Filip’s mother Carola sail sweetly over the epic choruses of her son’s electro-metal onslaught – providing the perfect musical counterpoint to the carnage of heavy riffs and hard electronics seething beneath the surface.

DWA doesn’t often do what could reasonably be classified as “industrial metal” – so when we do, you can be sure it must be something pretty special. Basically, we haven’t heard music this good in this style since the days of WHITE ZOMBIE or (for those who remember them) fellow Swedes MISERY LOVES CO. – so for those of you with a hankering for those kinds of grooves and super-heavy riffs, imagine a totally contemporary take on that kind of thing, fused with dubstep, glitching and digital hardcore elements and you will be thinking along the right lines.

Already boasting a huge underground following in Russia on the back of the self-released demos, RTR’s full debut album quickly met with a far wider reaching appreciation from fans across the globe – rapidly becoming one of DWA’s fastest-selling acts.

Digital singles of fan favorites “Ikaros” and “Aeon”, plus RTR’s first promo video (for “Aeon”) followed, along with a well-received appearance at Resistanz Festival earlier this year. Meanwhile as might be expected RTR mastermind Filip has been hard at work in the studio working on a follow up album worthy of the name.

Every year at DWA we manage to find some new spin on the concept of compilation albums – and 2015 is no exception!

We present you with an eclectic collection of cover versions originally written and performed by 80s icons A Flock Of Seagulls, Army Of Lovers, Depeche Mode, Beastie Boys and Den Harrow, 90s alt rockers Deftones and Korn, industrial scene legends Grendel and And One, dating back as far as 1975 with seminal electro pioneers Kraftwerk all the way through to Nicki Minaj shaking her booty just a couple of years ago.

And yes “present” might just be the key word here – because you can pick this up for JUST ONE LOUSY US DOLLAR if you feel so inclined!

Well over a couple of years in the making since the original idea started being floated around the DWA roster, the level of satisfaction at this finally seeing the light of day is palpable…
Bands known principally for electronic music like vProjekt and Technolorgy reveal their talents on more traditional guitars and drums, acts like Terrolokaust and Sirus known for their electro style tackle 90s alt rock anthems…

ONE DOLLAR?!?!? WHAT are we talking about?
Well, we set the minimum price for downloading this album to $1 rather than “free” because EVEN IF you give “cover” songs away free you STILL have a legal obligation to pay the composer(s) of each track the statutory $0.091 due under Mechanical Copyright laws. On an 11 track album that adds up to just over $1 – so that is just our minimum legal obligation, not even considering any “production costs”.
